Environmental Program Core Certificate (pending approval)
This program is suggested preparation for our more advanced certificates. It provides students with a solid academic background for pursuing any of them.
17 units. Certificate of Achievement
Ecological Restoration Certificate
This certificate was developed at the urging of students in our Landscape Horticulture Department. It is designed to provide essential scientific and technical background to entrepreneurs, employees, and volunteers. It will emphasize HOW TO DO ecological restoration work (largely replanting native plant species on abused lands). For greatest employability, combine this certificate with any certificate from Merritt’s Landscape Horticulture program.

LONGER CERTIFICATES AND ASSOCIATE DEGREES
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND RESTORATION TECHNOLOGY (EMART) MAJOR (fully approved)
This program is designed to prepare students for employment in the fields of environmental management and restoration. Graduates will be employed by environmental organizations, public agencies (parks, forests, wild lands, urban and regional planning agencies, etc.), and private enterprises (a wide variety of industries and consulting firms). They will be hired assist planners and managers, and perform environmental restoration work, in urban/suburban, rural, and wildland settings.

HUMAN ECOLOGY MAJOR (fully approved)
The Human Ecology program is a two-year, largely social and natural science-based major. It is designed to give students a very broad background in environmental subjects, with heavy emphasis on the human perspective. Students who have a strong interest in the environment, and are planning to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor's degree in the social sciences, liberal arts, or humanities will find this program to be good preparation. This Certificate will become the Environmental Justice and Human Ecology Major and will be affiliated with the David R. Brower, Ronald V. Dellums Institute for Sustainable Policy Studies.

ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN and ENERGY TECHNOLOGY (ETech) MAJOR
ECOLOGICAL DESIGN EMPHASIS (undergoing redevelopment)
The current program includes Ecological Design and Energy Technology in the built environment and in the interface with wildland environments. It is designed to prepare students for employment in the field of building and landscape design and construction, or to transfer to 4-year institutions. This major is undergoing redevelopment and eventually will be linked cooperatively with Laney College's Architectural Technology and Construction majors.
