Internet Searching

The Internet contains so much information that it can be over whelming.  There is no single organizing structure (such as the Online Catalog), but there are many search tools and directories that can help you find the specific information that you need.   Below is a grid of search engines, directories, and meta search tools for general searching.  Use the Web Links button for subject and research links.  For searching guidelines go to the Searching Skills page.

Subject lists and directories Search for Internet resources already grouped and arranged by Subject Yahoo || Infomine || a2z || Britannica Internet Guide ||  Librarians Index to the Internet
Search Engines Search by KEYWORD for Internet resources on specific topics Google || AltaVista || FAST Search || Northern Light
Meta-search tools Run a search on several engines at the same time, or successively Dogpile || MetaCrawle
