Entry Level Job Seekers This site is an index designed for those just starting out, with little or no full-time experience. Select Job Links to see a list of home pages of companies with openings for entry-level workers. Employment opportunities throughout the United States are covered.

JobStar This is the best place to go for salary and wage information on specific professions, as well as for general surveys. Over 200 surveys are included. There is also worthwhile information here on salary negotiation techniques.

CalJobs A great place to look for jobs in California. CalJobs posts its job listings in English and Spanish. You have to enroll online to use this service, but it is easy and free. You can also use CalJobs to build a résumé online and submit it for review by employers who are looking for workers.

UC Berkeley's Career Information Links This site is a good place to find a variety of reliable links to career information in a given field. It works best for careers for which some college preparation is required, but there is some information available on manual work and skilled trades, too. It offers career outlooks, educational resources and information of special interest to multicultural populations.

Career Mosaic A good selection of industry-specific job listings. Search by keyword and geography to find openings.

RightsAtWork.com Guide to Employment Rights A general "layperson's guide" to employee rights covering such things as Age Discrimination, Severance Packages, and Religious Accommodation.

RESUMES

Library of the Workplace Work Skills: An index of work skills divided into categories. Based on the framework established in What Work Requires of Schools: published by the Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills, U.S. Department of Labor, June 1991.

Online Writing Lab Purdue University's excellent web site specializing in business, technical, and professional writing. Included is a tutorial on resumes and cover letters.

JobStar--Résumés Excellent site covering everything from what a résumé is, to samples, to choosing the best type for your situation.

Proven Résumés Career Center Regina Pontow's series of 40 free online workshops includes before and after résumé examples, as well as sections on design, content, and how to best present your skills. Wading through all her material takes time, but if you don't have a good grasp of what's involved with writing an effective résumé, this site's for you!

The Résumé Place Good source for information on how to write a résumé for federal jobs (yes, they are different!); there is also useful information on preparing scanable résumés.

Your Winning Edge From the New York Dept. of Labor, this site offers lots of information on how to best conduct your job search. Chapter Two, "Selling Yourself on Paper", has a useful selection of résumé samples for various situations, including changing careers; displaced homemakers; and new college graduates.
