EOPS/CARE

What is EOPS?

 Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state-funded program designed to ensure campus access and provide support services to students who face economic, language, and social barriers and who are historically under-represented in higher education. EOPS assists students who participate in the program to attain their educational and career goals as they prepare to enter an increasingly technological and multicultural society. Our goal is to support and enable EOPS students’ through a comprehensive program of services. For a list of EOPS services and eligibility requirements, please go to the links on the left.

What is CARE?

Coooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) is a subset of EOPS, designed to provide extra educational support services to EOPS students who are also single parents receiving CalWORKs cash aid. CARE may provide you with some or all of these benefits: academic, career, and personal counseling; peer advising; CARE grants; tutoring; referrals; transportation; book vouchers; assistance with school supplies; daily meal services; awards luncheon; and coverage of some student fees.

  • Must be an EOPS student
  • Must be enrolled in 9 units
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • You or your dependent (s) must receive county cash aid
  • Must be single head of household
  • Assistance and follow-up on referrals to on-campus and outside agencies.
  • Priority registration
  • Must meet California resident requirements
  • Qualify for California Community College Promise Grant
  • MUST BE ENROLLED as a Full-Time Student (enrolled IN 12 UNITS OR MORE FOR THE SEMESTER).
  • Must not have completed over 70 units of degree-applicable coursework in any combination of higher education institutions
  • Must also meet one of the following criteria:
  • Completed a previous basic skills class
  • Not a High School graduate or did not complete a GED
  • High school GPA below 2.5
  • First-generation college student
  • Current or Former Foster Youth
  • New EOPS Student Orientation
  • Academic, personal and career counseling
  • Student Educational Plans
  • Academic Progress Monitoring
  • Transfer Information and Preparation
  • UC and CSU Application Fee Waivers
  • Book Service – assists eligible EOPS students pay for required textbooks
  • EOPS Book Loan Program – EOPS has a limited number of required textbooks available on loan for the semester
  • Peer Advising – campus resource referrals, EOPS program information
