The Merritt College Landscape Horticulture Department is to help students attain knowledge, skills, and broad-based outlooks needed to succeed as professionals, as stewards of the land, and as responsible citizens. LANHT 501: Urban Community Gardening
Class meets Tuesday/Wednesday 9:30 - 11:00 am at the Lakeside Park Demonstration Garden Area at Lake Merritt!
Course Description
This course is an intensive introduction to vegetable food production, garden construction, and drip irrigation. Year-round seasonal vegetables are grown from seed to harvest. Organic methods are employed in their cultivation.
All produce is donated to local shelters and various organizations. Currently, donations are being distributed to the Berkeley Food Bank, Your Daily Bread, and Merritt S.O.U.L. (food bank).
The class is Open Entry/Exit, CR/NC, and CR (credit) for the class will be awarded if the student attends class for at least 65% of the scheduled hours. No Pre-requisites or Co-requisites.
